The roommate agreement was in effect for most of the show; But since Sheldon moved in with Amy in Penny`s old apartment, it can be assumed that the agreement is no longer in effect. Good news for Leonard, then… Courts tend to invalidate contracts in this unilateral way. From a legal point of view, we say that the content of the treaty is unacceptable. In other words, the terms of the agreement are so unfair that they insult consciences. Beyond the unfair terms, a contract is unacceptable though: the big joke in The Big Bang Theory is how crazy Sheldon can be – that his brilliance is overshadowed only by his „weirdness“ and that his friends must constantly find ways to handle all the bonkers Sheldon asks of the people around him. The one who really does is of course his roommate leonard. He has to deal with Sheldon`s demands on a daily basis, as they live together (until the end of the series, of course) and Sheldon (as Sheldon) makes him sign a very complicated „Roommate Agreement“. As in the workplace, Sheldon makes an annual retrospective of Leonard`s performance as a roommate. Leonard and Sheldon have already broken the rules of their agreement, but they have never left any of them homeless. Instead, it usually results in fines or silent treatment until they are cooled! But even if Sheldon and Amy wanted a turtle, he`d be breaking his own rule. In the roommate agreement, he explained that pets were in fact prohibited, unless they were pets! One of the best parts of The Big Bang Theory is to observe the relationship between Sheldon Cooper and all those with whom he interacts.

You might think he`s relatively „normal“ around his roommate, Leonard, but it couldn`t be further from the truth. Even after living and working together for years, Sheldon has always treated him as a tenant sharing the room. Although I think Leonard has a good shot at dismissing the roommate agreement, there are some who may not agree. Courts generally do not accept ignorance or non-reading as a plausible defence. It is generally considered that, without fraud, if you sign a contract that means that you have read it, understood it, and accepts all the inherent risks involved. Leonard is a highly educated and intelligent scientist who works for a renowned university.
